Blackbirds are a three-piece band from Byron Bay, gaining prominence in Australia when they reached the semi-finals of Australia's Got Talent in 2010.
After their brief appearance on the national stage, Blackbirds were keen to capitalise on their exposure and reach out to their new fanbase. Having come close to a record deal, Blackbirds were determined to release their debut album independently, but needed a minimum of $10 000.
Digital Ally proposed a crowd-funding approach using a new local startup called FundBreak (now known as Pozible) . Over the course of 50 days an online campaign was run across their website, Facebook page, and FundBreak project page, accompanied by an email marketing campaign and press release. A reach out to the Australia's Got Talent judges also paid dividends, with Danni Minogue tweeting about the fundraising drive to her 200 000 followers.
With hours to go, Blackbirds hit their fundraising target, triggering a release of funds so they could finally complete their debut album. As one of FundBreak's first big project successes, Blackbirds received local and national press coverage.
